A two-story great room at the center of everything.

Two-story great room with a tall fireplace column and walls of glass
The great room: two stories of glass around a full-height fireplace wall

Project 820 sits on a private, wooded lot in Sugar Hill. White board-and-batten, a stone base and black windows give it a clean modern-farmhouse face, and white oak floors run through the main living spaces inside.

The front door opens to a slatted oak accent wall and straight into a two-story great room, where a full-height fireplace wall sits between walls of glass. The great room flows into the dining area and kitchen: a dark island with a quartz top and farmhouse sink, a wood-trimmed range hood, a gas cooktop, a wall oven and microwave combo, and a large pantry. A beverage bar with a wine fridge and lit floating shelves sits just off the dining area. A main-floor bedroom with its own full bath works as a guest suite or a second primary.

Upstairs, a loft with a media wall looks down over the great room. The primary suite has a freestanding soaking tub, a walk-in shower, a double vanity and a large walk-in closet, and two more bedrooms each have a private bath. Outside are two covered patios, one with a brick fireplace, both plumbed with gas lines for a grill.

The design process

Drawn floor by floor before the first board went up.

Project 820 began as a complete set of construction drawings. The open great room, the loft above it and the way stone and board-and-batten meet on the front were all decided on paper first, so the build could follow the plan instead of improvising.
